Workwear Wednesday: Bow Pencil Skirt

J.Crew Bow Skirt // D’Orsay Heels {love these ones too!} // J.Crew Blazer // Henri Bendel Purse {similar} // Ruffle Necklace {similar}

It’s hump day – the magical day of the week where it finally seems like the end of the workweek is finally in sight…*sighs in relief*. The snow in Chicago made for an extra rough start to my workweek because my commute was even longer than usual. I don’t know what it is about snow, or rain, or really any sort of element that befalls Chicago, but for some reason everyone and their mother forgets how to drive on the highway. If it literally mists outside, it takes me 30 more minutes to get home than usual…cue ALL the podcasts, please!

But in other news, since Wednesday’s usually get a bad rep (they’re better than Monday and Tuesday, but definitely no Thursday or Friday), I thought I’d make a new series called workwear Wednesday where I share some of my favorite looks for my workweek. To be honest, there’s no way it’s going to happen every Wednesday (who am I kidding?!), but when I do have a workwear post, it’s probably going to make it on this here blog on a Wednesday moving forward. I received so many awesome comments and messages from last workwear post from a few weeks back (it turns out I’m not the only one who has to dress up for work!), that I thought it would be fun to make this a little more of a series moving forward. We can all commiserate about how painful dressing up for work is, and hopefully learn some tips or find some new pieces along the way 😉

While killing some time on Southport a few weeks back, I stopped into J.Crew and discovered this amazing bow pencil skirt. Anything with bows is good in my book, so the fact that it was something I could wear to work made it an extra awesome find. I like to have some room for tucking in shirts and sweaters, so I went up a size from my usual J.Crew size and found that it fit a lot better – especially since you need a little extra room when sitting in meetings all day.

Since I’ve been trying to remix more pieces in my wardrobe rather than buying too many new pieces, I paired my new skirt with a simple t-shirt I already own (you could easily swap it out for a cotton or silk button down for more formal work environments), my classic J.Crew blazer and my favorite pair of D’orsay heels. It’s an easy look for a day at the office, and can double as a cute look for date night too! Finding multi-tasking outfits are always a bonus, especially when you’re trying to pack everything in on a week day! Aright, that’s it for my inaugural (or at least official) workwear Wednesday post. Let me know if you also struggle finding pieces you love to wear to work, and if you have any workwear style questions! I’m definitely not an expert (to say the least…), but I’m always happy to help! xx
